On 19 August this year, the 42nd Federal Immission Control Ordinance (42. BImSchV) came into force in Germany. This will impose significantly increased monitoring and documentation requirements on the operators of wet separators.

 

This said, can wet filtration still be considered a cost-efficient option?

Collectors with integrated flameless explosion venting and isolation elements for metal dusts ST2 and ST3

 

Manufacturers of industrial dust collectors to be used in potentially explosive atmospheres inside buildings are facing complex challenges. Numerous details must be clarified and requirements complied with, from correctly determining the required vent area to designing the clean-air discharge to selecting the appropriate explosion isolation equipment.

 

The venting and/or isolation equipment is usually installed on a ready-made collector, a method which is rather expensive and complicated. It must be ensured that each component matches the elements already present in the unit and complies with all relevant requirements. Mistakes at this stage may impair the safe function and cause high consequential costs.

 

Presently there is hardly any economically viable solution available for metal dusts such as aluminium ST2 or ST3.

Joint development of customized all-in-one collectors

 

As a promising project, we offer you the joint development of an all-in-one filtration system, where

 

  • from the outset, all functions are exactly defined to suit the specific application
  • all components are optimally configured for the relevant purpose and mutually compatible
  • the explosion venting element is an integral part of the collector design

New BREX® module and optimized housing strength increase flexibility

Based on our scubex®series, we developed the BREX® module, which has all functions of a flameless explosion venting device and meets the relevant statutory requirements. As a central component of the novel filtration system, it is the first flameless explosion protection element that can be individually designed to suit a dust collector and to be fitted directly into the housing. Several BREX® modules can be combined to create the optimum venting solution for any dust collector.

The BREX® module is much smaller than other flameless explosion venting equipment.

 

The strength of the collector can be improved at moderate cost through targeted reinforcement provisions and the built-in BREX® venting modules. The strength of the housing, in turn, has an effect on the size of the required vent area.

Another outstanding feature of the integrative dust collector is our newly developed passive explosion isolation device, which has the following benefits:

 

  • the function is independent of the dust load in the volume flow
  • no minimum installation distances
  • maintenance-free (no sensors or detectors)
  • acts as pre-separator
  • reduced explosion pressure adjusted to collector housing

Passive explosion isolation device according to EN 15089:2009

The assembly inside the housing, through which the airflow passes freely, to some degree acts as pre-separator by extracting already part of the dust. Therefore the filter elements are not clogged rapidly and cleaning cycles can be reduced.

Environment – reusability saves money and resources

 

The BREX® will not be clogged with combustion residues, not even after several explosion. If it's not visibly damaged after an event it can continue to be used.

 

The blow-out flap, which is mounted inside a cassette, can be reclosed or easily exchanged, depending on the impact of an explosion.

 

The explosion isolation module can be exchanged without dismantling the entire unit.
